The El Nido Teaching Program in the Philippines offers a meaningful opportunity to inspire and equip children in rural communities with vital English communication skills. Your Schedule at a Glance (Minimum One-Week Commitment):

Day 1, Sunday: Arrive at El Nido (Lio) Airport, where you will be picked up and transported to the volunteer house in Nacpan Village.

Day 2, Monday: Orientation day with cultural lessons, a town tour, and a welcome dinner.

Days 3-6, Tuesday- Friday: Teach morning classes, assist local teachers in the afternoons, and prepare lesson plans in the evenings.

Days 7-8, Saturday and Sunday: Free time to explore El Nido’s islands, relax on beaches, or engage in local activities. Volunteers staying only one week will depart on Saturday.

Weeks 2-12: Remaining weeks will follow the pattern of volunteering Monday-Friday and having weekends free. Departures are on a Saturday.

About the Program
The El Nido Teaching Program aims to bridge the educational gap in rural Palawan by providing children with enhanced English skills. Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers teach English and assist with math and science lessons in fun and interactive ways. Tasks include leading engaging activities, collaborating with teachers, and sharing cultural insights to broaden students’ perspectives.

Volunteer tasks may include:

  • Create and deliver lesson plans.
  • Teach English, Math, and Science through games and songs.
  • Organize sports and artistic activities.
  • Support classroom management and student engagement.
  • Share cultural experiences with students and teachers.

 

A Typical Day

  • Morning: Teach classes at the local school, focusing on interactive English lessons.
  • Afternoon: Assist local teachers with classroom activities and prepare lessons for the next day.
  • Evening: Reflect on the day’s work, finalize lesson plans, and relax with fellow volunteers

 

Holidays: During public holidays in 2025, most teaching and kindergarten programs will continue with special activities arranged for children, except on major holidays such as New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Labor Day, and Christmas Day, when all programs are paused. School holidays will feature holiday programs like TGL English Camp and additional activities for students, ensuring continued engagement outside the regular school system. A detailed holiday schedule with specific dates will be provided following registration.

Laundry icon Laundry: Hand-washing facilities are available; participants should expect to do their laundry manually.

Accommodations icon Accommodations: As a volunteer, you will stay in shared dormitory rooms with separate spaces for men and women. Rooms feature bunk beds, shared bathrooms, and basic amenities. The accommodations are near the beach, providing easy access for relaxation and leisure.

Food icon Food: Three meals are provided on weekdays, featuring local Filipino cuisine, including rice, vegetables, chicken, and eggs. On weekends, two meals (brunch and dinner) are served, offering similar dishes. Dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice. Meals are typically served at the accommodation, with packed lunches or restaurant arrangements available during outdoor activities. Exploring local cuisine during free time is a personal expense.
