Hua Hin is one of Thailand’s most popular beach destinations for locals and tourists alike. It is located 280 kilometers southwest of Bangkok, in the southern Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Kha. Hua Hin is the perfect destination for beach lovers.
As a volunteer, you will teach English in various primary and secondary schools in Hua Hin. The age of the students may be between 6 and 18. Many schools are open to new concepts and approaches to teaching. This means that you can share your ideas and teaching strategies that may complement the local Thai teaching style. The aim is to continue improving the children’s prospects by teaching them English. You will also gain an insight into the Thai education system and develop friendships with students and teachers.
You will work alongside other teachers and participants in the class, where you can also help create lesson plans and organize activities in the classroom. Before participants go to the placement, they will work with local coordinators and review the teaching lessons, materials and activities for that day to ensure continuous lesson plans for children.
Schedule:
You will leave the centre at 08:30 a.m. 09:30 a.m, 11.00 a.m. and 1. 00 p.m. depending on the school. Expect to teach for 2-3 hours. The classes are in the morning or afternoon based on the availability of the time slot and the school. Also, there are days when you have to teach kids in both morning and afternoon. They usually served lunch at the school or the centre, depending on the program scheduled on a particular day.
School Holidays:
School holidays usually take place from the beginning of October to mid-November and March to May. During such times, you can join special classes and English camps for young students that are organized by the local community. There will be smaller groups of students from primary and secondary schools during the English camp program. Use your creative skills through song, dance, games, and repetition to help young children to learn and enjoy their introduction to basic educational concepts. Environmental and construction volunteer programs are also available.
Internet: Wi-Fi is available in public areas.
Laundry: On-site laundry machines or service is available for an extra fee.
Accommodations: Participants will stay in single-gender dormitories with up to eight people per room. Rooms have shared bath-rooms with western toilets and hot water showers. Volunteers can upgrade to private rooms for an extra fee (see Additional Options below). The accommodation complex has a pool area and garden for the volunteers.
Food: Three meals a day are provided during the week and two meals a day on the weekends. The meals will be Thai style, comprising rice and noodle dishes. Most of the meals will be vegetarian, with meat offered occasionally.
Culture Week in Hua Hin (Highly Recommended):
For an additional fee, you can extend your stay for a week, with a program designed to introduce you to Thai culture, as well as give you time to get to know the other volunteers.
