I volunteered at the Orangutan and Wildlife Rescue Center for two weeks and it was amazing to work with the local staff and learn about the amazing animals here. The mornings begin with a wake up call from gibbons and birds – there is no better way to start the day!
The keepers are very warm and welcoming and answered all the questions that I had about the animals and Java. At the accommodation there is amazing food and good company. The local people are very friendly.
There are over 150 animals at the center and I loved them all, but the orangutans are my favorite. Orangutans are such incredible animals. They are well cared for at this center.
A few of the enrichment treats we gave to the animals included bamboo, fruits, stuffed bottles and frozen treats on hot days.
I would recommend this program to anyone who loves wildlife and wants to try something new. My experience here was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and provided me with more confidence to continue my studies and working with animals
